James Crane worked on the 101st floor of Tower 1 of the World Trade Center . He is blind so he has a golden retriever named Daisy. After the plane hit 20 stories below, James knew that he was doomed, so he let Daisy go, out of an act of love. She darted away into the darkened hallway. Choking on the fumes of the jet fuel and the smoke James was just waiting to die. About 30 minutes later, Daisy comes back along with James' boss, who Daisy just happened to pick up on floor 112.

On her first run of the building, she leads James, James' boss, and about 300 more people out of the doomed building. But she wasn't through yet, she knew there were others who were trapped. So, highly against James' wishes she ran back in the building.

On her second run, she saved 392 lives. Again she went back in. During this run, the building collapses. James hears about this and falls on his knees into tears. Against all known odds, Daisy makes it out alive, but this time she is carried by a firefighter. "She led us right to the people, before she got injured" the fireman explained.

Her final run saved another 273 lives. She suffered acute smoke inhalation, severe burns on all four paws, and a broken leg, but she saved 967 lives. Daisy is the first civilian Canine to win the Medal of Honor of New York City . I hope you enjoyed this story. I thought it was terrific.

Mommy or Mummy Extraordinaire!!! Yup! I think so!

Meet Sunny, born August 1st, 2010. Sunny was one of four kittens, some of whom have their pictures in previous posts. Sunny was never wrote about because..., we..., there didn't seem to be anything very interesting about her. She is a nice, but shy cat who never made waves or disturbances.

Her sister, Honey was much the same way. Honey, being a very pretty, flashy, dark ginger and white cat was adopted by a family wanting a kitten for their seven year old daughter, who fell in love immediately with her.

This summer Honey became pregnant and finally gave birth to four very attractive kittens on July 30th, 2011. They are the colourful ones in this photo.

Surprise, surprise, 10 days later Sunny gave birth to four rather plain kittens. They are the sand coloured ones in the photo.

Lost Mommy

Twelve days later, Honey went missing. She didn't run away. She loved her kittens far too much who were born in an outside building. She doted on her babies in a way that her mother never did for her. But we still don't know what happened.

The kittens starved for two days. He owners thought that Honey was close by, but the cries because constant and very loud. They came after me.

I didn't know what to do. I've never had much luck in helping kittens to survive. But SweetPea survived and had four month old kittens, one of whom was still nursing even though SweetPea had been neutered or spaded the month before.

I didn't want these kittens even though there is a better chance of them being adopted than Sunny's kittens. But what could I do? I have baby pet bottles here and kitten formula from the veterinarians. So I took them home determined to save the little ones for the sake of the little girl who had just lost her best friend.

Sunny's Solution!

I tried but the bottle nipple was hard and they were too young to understand and they cried. Sunny, who keeps her kittens under my computer desk, must have stressed out because before I knew it she was picking up a mouthful of fur and heading for our (hers and mine) bedroom.

Soon she had all eight kittens around her but not enough nipples were available for all the youngsters. Soon the scratching and crying began and I was scared that the Honey's two-week old kittens would hurt Sunny's four day old kittens who were losing the battle for nourishment.

After a lot of trial and error, a system has been worked out where I remove one of the litters to the car for a couple of hours, while the other feed and get cleaned (a necessary part of the kittens survival). This goes on around the clock, day and night. Honey's kittens are 20 days old today and are finally feeding with the bottles and formula before switching places with the younger kittens. Sunny cleans them and them feed some before falling into slumber.

Sunny's kittens are ten days old and are growing. their eyes are not yet opened but they sure are a vocal lot. Honey's kittens have adjusted to the switching and formula and the handling by inept hands and they too are growing. Sunny has the feline flu but it is only mild and not affecting her much more than serious bouts of sneezing so far. She has lost weight but seems to be gaining a bit back.

Mommy Extraordinaire!

Yes! This new mother who didn't know how to raise her own litter has taken on two litters, eight kittens and is keeping them alive. The love, care and patience Sunny has for these kittens is completely stunning and must be seen to be believed.

She has help..., me, Maggie (the little girl) Kevin (Maggie's dad), SweetPea who spends an abnormal amount of time cleaning her grandchildren, their uncles Smurf and Smudge and their granddaddy, Bones, all who takes the time to stop and give them a lick now and then.

The local people, neighbours find it absolutely amazing that Sunny took strange kittens whom she had never met before and made them her own. This relatively plain kitten whom no one wanted because she didn't stand out as pretty suddenly became a heroin in her own right.

Aftermath:

In reflecting back, I have been stunned by the care mother cats have given the young of others twice this year. The mother cat of a friend had four kittens and her kitten from a previous litter gave birth to three kittens. The two mother cats share responsibility for the growing kittens.

These cats are more civilized than many people whom I know!!!

Hi, I'm Smudge, formally known as "The Smudget!" I am the first born of four, six months ago and I'm one big baby. See, see, see I have a black smudge under my chin, I was the first named, too! I am one beautiful cat....

My hobby is to jump on my lady at the computer and chase the mouse. He runs under the monitor and I try to go there too but I'm just too big, so I go around back, over the top and wait for him. I stick my paws under but I can't catch him. He just never comes out. But I still get to jump on my lady, dozens of times a day! I love her.

Well..., let me tell you what happened to me today. There is this big round seat that my lady sits on. She doesn't use a litter box. Well, she was sitting there when I came around the corner. There were these long strings hanging from her gym pants and I saw them. I crouched and I wiggled my bum and then I took a flying leap and I landed in my lady's pants, head first and I slipped down her pant leg.

Yewwwwwwww! Gross me out! I tried to claw my way back out! But all I heard were screams and I was ripped out faster that a cat can spit. I got out of there fast because the last time I jumped and my lady got up, I slipped between her legs and into the bowl. It was wet down there and the smellllll, peeeyew!

After having four more kittens, our dear little SweetPea has started to gobble her food to keep it away from the kittens who are now six months old. Actually only two of the four are determined to eat everything in site. This has lead to a rather disturbing problem - vomiting! Totally yuck!

I've decided I have to do something to correct SweetPea's eating habits. So after doing a little research, I decided to try garlic and a blender to give her more digestible food. This is the first recipe I tried and lo and behold..., she managed to keep the food down.

It is a bland diet for an upset stomach
1cup - rice baby cereal (pre-mixed with water)
1 bottle lamb baby food, ( turkey or chicken is just as good)
1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
1/8 - 1/4 fresh pressed garlic
Mix the ingredients and divide into 3 to 4 meals

And Baby Makes Three

Darling little SweetPea had a baby last week. Actually she had two but the youngest died, poor thing. SweetPea is a long-hair, soft white Angora Magdalen Islands beach cat.

Daddy is Bones a long hair, orange Angora, Magdalen Islands Beach cat and quite possible the daddy to SweetPea herself since we don't know who her daddy is. Still he probably isn't since he didn't leave home the year she was born. However, we don't know all the places SweetPea's mommy roamed.

Baby will also be a long-hair, Angora Magdalen Islands beach cat. He is eight days old today but still hasn't opened his eyes. Baby is a happy kitten and has spent a lot of time purring this quiet little rumble. It is so cute and he makes me smile.

SweetPea is a good mom and never mean, but she tends to be neglectful of her youngster sometimes. Perhaps she is afraid that she will lose my love because she seems to want to spend as much time wit me as she does with baby.

When weaned, baby kitten will go up for adoption to a good and loving home.

Squidoo Meets Gimme A Dream

Yahoo! I’ve finally gone and done it! I’ve created my first squidoo lens. I started it a couple of years ago and left it unpublished. I couldn’t understand why anyone would want a single page “lens” website. And all I could do was add text to it. Well it mattered to me. I was embarrassed that a simple program got the best of me and I didn’t want to show it to anyone.

Blogging came so easy to me and yet creating a website or a squidoo lens was and is so daunting that I'd prefer to ignore it's existence.

A couple of months ago the administration emailed me, reminding me that I was a member and that they were sending updates now, would I like to subscribe to the “lens of the day”. Well sure! And I began to receive what they considered the best of Squidoo.

It didn’t take long for me to see a pattern to Squidoo and see possibilities and potential in the program and I knew I wanted to create a lens. So I called up my old, unpublished lens about the horses that I had here. Still I drew a blank! How to put pictures in? How do I track it? How do I use it in conjunction with Twitter? And Heaven forbid…, how does it involve blogging?

I did a very long learning curve on this one. My Squidoo Lens is called “Horse Sanctuaries” and it is athttp://www.squidoo.com/gimmeadream

It isn’t quite the way I imagined it but it will be updated regularly until I find a way to add modules, banking systems, my baling twine tack for sale and other tings that will be related to horse sanctuaries that I want. It’s a ‘work in progress’, as they say.

Gimme A Dream’s Horse Sanctuary is a description of each of the horses who have become a part of his life here on the Magdalen Islands. It is the first in a series of Squidoo lens, describing various incidences involving horses here and how unexpected problems are overcome.

The second lens in the series will be the seizures of Sam’s (Sammy) Pride, giving a detailed description of her life and possible actions I might have taken differently had I know for the start, I had a very sick horse on my hands.

There will be other lens too. Lens about experiences people have with their horses while living in isolated conditions here on the island.

I don’t mean there to be any monetary gain from the lenses that I create about the horses really. This experiment is mostly about learning to use various methods to extract all the possible potential from them. Then when I have learned enough, I hope to have the knowledge and courage to put it all together into a “make a living” campaign which will help to feed the horses. Not too terrible lofty, I don’t think.

Susan Boyle is a British Idol contestant. She was a surprising shock to the judges and the audience when she first went on. She is not what we are programmed to expect in a DIVA singer. She was "cheeky" when answering the judges questions. He personal presentation was that of a not-so-shy cleaning woman. But when the music started, I Dreamed A Dream, by Les Miserables and the audience started to listen, when her voice rang out, Susan brought them all to a standing ovation.

I thought maybe I'd link this weblog to other weblogs that I write for, thus allow people who wanted to read what it is that keeps me busy and away from Gimme a chance, lol! Truthfully, I want to create a network or a web of sorts with links here and there, so here goes:

Today I wrote a story about my uncle Lornes new boat. Now this boat isn't new anymore and my uncle died in 2001. But the story is relevant to the Magdalen Islands. It is at Iles-de-la-Madeleine and the story is rather unique. My uncle, being a bachelor, started this forty-foot fishing boat, in his home. But he wasn't crazy..., I guess you'll have to read the story....

I wrote an article on Equine Breathing Techniques and it is bringing in quite a few visitors to the All Things Horse Website. It is an interesting holistic look at teaching a horse how to breathe properly for athletic events. It also works for nervous horses....

A Night At The Movies - The Oscars!

I'm not a big movie nut case. The last time I went to a movie theater was to see Bruce Willis in Die Hard 4 I think - the last one anyway and that was a year and a half ago or two and a half years ago, whenever it came into theaters. I haven't watched television since the projector broke down..., about the same time I guess. I do occasionally watch an action adventure on DVD though. I guess that counts.

A Turn of the Century Snowmobile - The 20th Century That Is!

Today, looking outside and going out to feed the horses was a trial. We had another fresh layer of snow down, again. If it wasn’t for the packed path tat I made over the entire winter by dragging a sled with hay bales and then a dragger net full of fresher loose hay, I wouldn’t have been able to get to the horses.

As it is, I’ve had to temporarily raise their enclosing fence another four feet, to near the tops of the surrounding trees. Big Dream walked over the top of the fence a couple of weeks ago. And there are places where they don’t go that the fence is not even visible anymore.

Come spring, I would be surprised to measure the height of the fence inside the forest paddock under ten feet.

There are snowmobiles out in the fields everyday, but the small skidoo of today would get stuck in the snow banks inside the forest. They would bog down as surely as if they were in muck....

But not this beast - I was amazed at the simplicity of this contraption. Armstead Snow Motors put out one heck of a neat snow vehicle in 1924. Who would have ever thunk it!

I ain't much for shopping,
Or for goin' into town
Except at cattle-shipping time,
I ain't too easily found.

But the day came when I had to go -
I left the kids with Ma.
But 'fore I left, she asked me,
'Would you pick me up a bra?'

So without thinkin' I said, 'Sure,'
How tough could that job be?
An' I bent down and kissed her
An' said, 'I'll be back by three.'

Well, I done the things I needed,
But I started to regret
Ever offering to buy that thing -

I walked into the ladies shop

Meet SweetPea showing off her new collar....

Did I say SHOWING OFF..., now that is a laugh. You see dear little SweetPea is six months old and has two priorities for her short life - sleep and play, eating is very low on her list of priorities. She doesn't care one iota that she has a collar on or if I get a good picture. Here, she is just about to take a flying leap, with a backward twist, to grab Cleigh's fingers that are dangling a couple of feet above her head, so I could get a decent picture of the collar's bead work.

Now I imagine you are wondering why I should put this up now.... Well, I came across this 'Best of the Best' cat antics video and I thought it was funny at least some of the cat actions were..., other antics I thought might have been cruel, but that is just me. In any case, I have seen dear little SweetPea do just about all of these antics. SweetPea keeps us laughing for the most part, and in wonder the rest of the time. As Cleigh has said recently, "SweetPea is going to turn in to one sucky cat", but lovable all the same.... I found the video while surfing the horse blogs that I love so much!!! My Take on Social Networking

I do a lot of Social Networking and I enjoy it. Most people would think I was totally nuts for collecting up "friends" from all over the world, most of whom I have nothing in common. But I enjoy it, so I keep the global activity to myself.

Most social networkers I meet are trying to interest me in buying something, which is cool. I have no hang-ups with that. But..., social networking is not the place to sell an item, whether it is a physical product or an MLM program. Nobody's buying!

I've joined hundreds of MLM programs that are free. Most of the ones I've joined want me to go out and recruit my friends to the program and create a large downline, to sell their product. Some of them are gimmicks to gouge money out of my pockets after I've joined for free. But I'm a tight-wad, so it hasn't succeeded that way. Usually..., alway, I think, I bookmark the site and leave - never to return. Well..., rarely to return anyway.

But Social Networking is important, not for selling and buying products and services but for making "friends". Making contacts and enjoying each others lives..., that is what social networking means to me.

I came across this video of Perry Belcher, who describes what social networking means to him. It many ways it is kind of like the way I look at social networking. Mr Belcher describes social networking as a party to be enjoyed. No one goes to a social party to sell or buy products or services. People go to a party to enjoy themselves. They go to be entertained. They go to make friends. They don't want to be bombarded by ads and pan-handlers.

Now I already had the idea of what social networking was. But what I didn't know was how blogging became involved in the social networking scene. I always thought that a blog was used to sell the product or service. But that is not how Perry Belcher explains blogging. This is an interesting concept for me. If the social network is the party, then the blog is the home of the social networker.

We don't sell products and services from our home foyer. When a person comes to our home, the first thing they see as they enter the door is not shelves lined with products. And the first thing they hear is not the services we have to offer. No, what a person sees is family pictures and photos of activities which interest us personally.

A blog, as an extention of social networking, becomes a place of getting to know the friends met at the party, Social Networking. Here, the blogger can introduce the visitor or friend to the business in which he or she is involed with. This is much the same as a new friend asking what you do for a living. At this point, the Social Networker can introduce the visitor/friend to the product or service. Now this makes sense to me, because it the blog becomes an extension of the social networker and not an extension of social networking!

I have thousands of "friends" in the social networking scene. I also have many webblogs. I author a crafts blog, a Magdalen Islands blog and social website, a horse blog, a Brion Island blog and others. This weblog, Gimme A Dream, is sort of my catch all. This weblog is my home, the one that is most like me. The one that is varied in the many interests I old dear to me. This is the website that I mostly send social networkers to. (Mostly because many of the social networking sites I belong to are specialized niche interests such as beading and horses).

I am so amazed at the talent of the street performers. I've made and worked with the marionettes before but this man makes me look like the amateur of amateurs. They deserve every penny they get and then some. I support the street performers whenever possible because they always manage to take away some of the stress of the day whether it is a shopping or working day. Whenever I am in PEI during the summer, I go to Peakes Quai in Charlottetown. It is the most wonderful place. There you can sit in balconies of the restaurant or stand around the performer while the do their thing. Sometimes they sing, sometimes there is only instrumental music, puppetry, artists, actors, clowns, acrobats or most anything else that can be done on a stage.

La Vielle Ecole - Grosse Ile

I watched this video which is called the Old or Former School - Grosse Ile. I haven't yet identified the school.

The hardwood reminds me of the 'Old English School in Grande Entree, now belonging to Paul Warren, who uses it as his summer home.

There is the Old School of Old Harry, owned by C.A.M.I. and made into a museum. But Old Harry also had an earlier school, that was the original home of Henry Clark Sr. After he built Aunt Rhoda's house, he would use the original house as a school for his grandchildren. As Old Harry became more populated, he donated the house and some land at Old Harry turn for a proper school for the day. This happened around 1870 and it stayed as a school until 1922, when the little red school house was built.

Timmy (Ivan) Clarke and Sandra Vigneau's home was the old School of East Cape, but I'm fairly sure that this is not the school, the video is referring to.

The first school in Grosse Isle was a building hauled to Grosse Isle Head. It was a one room school and is thought to date around 1860.

Also, there was a one room school built around the turn of the century, that was bought by Creighton Richards. It was moved to the Richards land and his brother, George turned it into a house. The house burned down while Stuart Richards was the owner, around the early 1980's, I think.

However, there is a house owned by the late John Clarke, on Grosse Isle North, that was part of the old two-room school house of Grosse Isle. The school had been built in 1934 by Arthur J.C. Goodwin and Douglas Clarke. This might possibly have been the old school in the video.

According to the picture in the video, the old school is John's house on Grosse Isle North. I haven't been inside it but it looks similar to Paul Warrens house according to the video.

I'm not much into sports, but I do wear a lot of exercise clothing. Because I'm with the horses for so much of my day, I need to wear clothing that is not only comfortable but also easy care. Much of the time I wear cheap clothing, so that if I rip or tear a shirt or joggers, I'm not concerned about the price of losing the outer wear.
Another conversation, ignited by dNeero was about sports wear and exercising in general. So like the others, I joined in. The conversation made me think more about how other people might see me. Since I only get one chance to make a first impression, I thought about how I want people to see me the first time they meet me. This conversation has one dollar pending.

Christmas

Christmas will be here soon - sooner then most of us would like probably, since it signifies the start of the winter season - cold ice and snow. But along with Christmas comes warmth among friends, good food, laughter and good times. Also a ton of new computer presents to setup and hook the internet to.

It's November 10th today and I've heard my first Christmas Carol of the 2008 season. It is a nice song, one that I never heard before and it reminds me of the Celtic style. The link came to me during a dNeero conversation. The conversation has 8 cents pending I think.

Sound Beginnings

I'm not sure that anyone has noticed, but I've been in to several different things lately ,that have affected my web log. dNeero is one of the activities which I enjoy doing, and the EntreCard widget is gone. But there is another program, "Odiogo" which interests me. It is a program that allows me to put the audio of what I have wrote, on each post. If you just don't feel like reading, now you can listen to the article.

Most of my articles lately haven't been important enough to add this feature. But I intend to do better! However, all my articles, from the day I started in early 2007 till now, have this feature. Some of my articles I'm pretty proud of.

I'm going to add Odiogo to my Magdalen Islands web log. That is where I do my writing articles and historical stories. It should be interesting there. This Web 2.0 is fascinating! Joining Odiogo is free. It is a computer generated dictation but has an almost real quality.
